His father, Zalman Yoeli was born in Tighina (Bender), Bessarabia. Aharon Yoel participated in many operations, including the War of Independence, Operation Kadesh, the Six Day War, the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War.
Yoeli was one of the founders of the Air Force and one of the leaders in its development in many areas, including the development of operational infrastructure, the training system and the advancement of its international status. From 1956 to 1958 he was commander of the 117th Squadron (Gloucester Meteor). On October 31, 1956, during Operation Kadesh, his plane was hit by a bullet fired by an Egyptian machine gun, which penetrated the cockpit and shrapnel wounded Yoel in his hands. He returned to an emergency landing at Tel Nof base, and due to the injury, the main right wheel did not come down and one engine shut down. Yoel made a crash landing and was taken to Kaplan Hospital where he underwent surgery.
After 24 hours he left, contrary to the instructions of the medical staft, and returned to the squadron he commanded. From 1958 to 1960 he commanded the 101st Squadron of Mister aircraft. Between 1960 - 1962 he served at the headquarters of the Air Force, the Department of Operations, as head of air 3 and between 1962-1964 he commanded the flight school of the Air Force at Tel Nof. He later served as an annex to the Air Force in Washington, DC, United States.
