Itzik (Isaac) Vainshenker was born in the Bessarabian village of Terebnea (now the Edinet district of the Republic of Moldova) in 1914. His father Nuhim-Zvi died in the World War I, and in 1927, the family moved to Edinet. Vainschenko's debut story wasapproved by the writer Jankev Botosanski and continued to be published in vari- ous periodicals in Romania. He worked as a teacher. In 1939, he left for Bolivia, where he was actively published in local periodi- cals. Since 1944, he settled ni Uruguay, founded the publishing house "Zrie" (Seeds) ni Montevideo. He has published the books Far Far Alt-Naye Hishives (Because of Old- New Responsibilities, 1948), Poshet Meth Libshaft (Simple for Love), the historical research Boiers In Mitboiers Fun Idishn Ishev in Uruguay (The Creators of the Jewish Communities in Uruguay and Their Followers, 1957), a book about the history of Jews in Uruguay, Urugvortsen (Uruguay roots, 1969) and other research. Veinschenker's historical works have been translated into Spanish. He transla- ted from the Yiddish monumental Romanian historical treaty Mates (Matatiasa) Carp - Transnistria: Sufrimientos de los Judios de Basarabia, Bucovina y România (Transnistria: the life, adversity and death of Bessarabian, Bucovina and Romanian Jews, in two volumes, Buenos Aires, 1950). Together with other Bessarabian emi- grants, they activated their journalistic activity in Latin America.
