His parents emigrated from Dumbräveni village, Soroca county of Bessarabia. His parents' entire family chose to come to Brazil. Mauricio Sirotsky is the father of Suzana, Sonia, Nelson and Pedro. From the age of 17, he joined Radio Gaúcha.
He later took over the management of Rádio Passo Fundo. In 1950, he moved permanently to Porto Alegre, working as announcer at Rádio Farroupilha and, the following year, at Rádio Difusora Porto-alegreense. He became advertising director for Emissoras Reunidas in 1952 and, in 1953, founded Rádio Publicidade Ltda., which was a representative office for shows and newspapers in the Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre. In 1957, a Mauritius-led company acquired Rádio Gaucha. Five years later, in 1962, with Frederico Arnaldo Ballve and Nestor Rizzo in Rio Grande do Sul, he created TV Gaúcha, which was affiliated wto TV Excelsior. In 1967, he created TV Caxias, forming the first regional TV network in Brazil, as well as Radio Atlântida, the first youth radio station in Brazil. In 1970, Mauricio Sirotsky Sobrinho bought the control package of the Zero Hora newspaper from Carvalho.
