The daughter of Abe Bronfman. Abe was born in Bessarabia (brother of Samuel Bronfman). Many causes and organizations benefited from Milly's efforts, in- cluding Congregation Shaar Hashomayim of which she became its first woman pre- sident; the Combined Jewish Appeal and Israel Emergency Fund of which she was twice the head of the Women's Division as well as the first woman to head the General Campaign; the first woman to be president ofthe Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Mont- real; the first woman named to the Board of Trustees of the lewish General Hospital; Chairman of the Quebec Heart Campaign; Co-chairman of theRed Cross Campaign; Co-chairman of the Montreal section of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens; Co-Founder of the School for Culturally Deprived Teenagers in Nehalin, Israel; spearheaded a campaign to save the Back River Cemetery, to mention only a few. She has been active in the the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the Royal Ballet of England, the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and other arts organizations. Honourary President of the Shaar Hashomayim Congregation, and also presides over the Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish General Hospital and the Jewish Community Foundation. Awarded the Order of Canada for her communal work, Milly was also the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Centennial Award, and receivedanHonorary Doctorate from her Alma Mater, McGill University.
