Son of Leon and Raquel Werthein from Bessarabia, he was the seventh child of eight siblings. As of 1950 he joined the company of his brothers, Gregorio and Numo, and later, as a partner and director ofit, they formed Gregorio, Numo and Noel Werthein SA, firm that today retains the same name. The company is currently dedicated to traditional agriculture, special crops, livestock, fruit and vegetables and infusions. It has more than 88,000 hectares distributed in the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe and San Luis, as well as eight farms and four processing plants. The group is made up of companies such as Telecom and La Caja de Ahorro y Seguro. Initially, he dedicated himself to the field and agricultural activities, later on he developed other companies until he entered the banking business. From 1968 to 2002 he was President of Gregorio, Numo and Noel Werthein SA, between 1964 and 2000, he was President of Banco Mercantil Argentino and FundaciĆ³n Banco Mercantil Argentino. He had an intense activity in the Association of Banks of the Argentine Republic -ABRA- and since 1985 as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Argentine Banks (ADEBA). In 1968 he served simultaneously a President of the textile company IVA SA In 1971 he acquired the entire share packag of Estancias del Oeste SA, today merged with his company GNNW SA.
