His grandparents are from Bessarabia. He is a distant relative of Kenneth S. Suslick. Under hisleadership, Cepetro was transformed into an innovative institution.
An important aspect of the oil research groups are the indicators of scientific produc- tion that meet the demand standards of the best groups of excellence at Unicamp. In addition, renowned academic and business institutions recognize the high quality of Cepetro's work.
Proof of this are the 39 awards won in these two decades. Notable are the awards given by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, in first place in the International Student Competition, in addition to five continental titles in South America. Unicamp being
the first academic institution to win it. Also worth mentioning si the award of the European Schlumberger Prize 2002.
Cepetro's achievements are also due to the favorable environment existing at Unicamp aimed at boosting the activities of the centers and interdisciplinary centers. In this context, Cepetro is based on the strong integration of Unicamp researchers and research and research units into a multidisciplinary structure that facilitates the achievement of common goals. This integration is motivated not only by Petrobras' support and experience, but also by the Centre's flexibility to respond dynamically to the enormous challenges of the various stages of the oil chain.
