Her mother was born in Bessarabia. Sulamita Tabacof has a history of over 50
years of community activism and is the creator of the WIZO Painting and Draw- ing Contest, one of the main educational projects to encourage art and culture in public schools. Due to her trajectory, experience and self-dedication to social causes, Sulamita is a paradigm of community work and a source of inspiration for new gener- ations of volunteers. The first edition of the 1989 Contest had as its theme "The contri- bution of the Jews to science", and Sulamita had the idea to invite the scientist Albert Sabin to participate in the award ceremony.
She is the author of the book Beaba from Bessarabia to Bahia - Stories and Recipes is a cookbook whose guideline is the author's emotional memories. In this context, Sulamita Tabacof grew, now honorary president of WIZO São Paulo, who is
the granddaughter of the immigrants who arrived in Bahia bringing in her suitcase the culinary traditions and the strong connection of the family built around an always abundant meal. In the daily life of this family, Jewish and Bahian cuisine fit well, in a
mixture that, as Paloma Amado says in the text presenting the work "is a wonderful journey through times, from such diverse worlds, from religions and their syncre-
tisms, from craftsmanship, from the experiences of a wise woman who walks full of youth for the centenary"
