He received music education at home. After returning from evacuation, he lived in Chisinäu, where he graduated the Eugen Coca Special School of Music and the Chisināu State Conservatory, whose founder and director was his father, the pro- minent composer, David Gershfeld, and where his grandfather taught, music teacher, composer Grigore Isaakovich Gershfeld. He was director of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, and then - principal director of the Opera and Balet Theater, where he worked until his departure to the United States in 1990. In 1988, Alfred Gershfeld, based on the Organ Hall in Chisinäu, founded and conducted the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova. Since the mid-1990s - art teacher, director atthe New World School of The Arts in Miami, artistic director and first conductor (founded by
him in 1992) of the Anna Maria Symphony Orchestra and Choir of Florida, artistic director of asmall Lake Placid Sinfonietta (NY). As aguest director, he hasperformed with the Symphony Orchestra of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of the Republic ofMoldova and several teams from the United States. Author of the children's opera "Karlson on the Roof", staged at the Opera and Ballet Theater of Moldova in 1988, the English version of this opera - was staged at the Sarasota Opera (Florida).
