Both his parents were from Bessarabia. As a child, he was passionate about engi- neering, aviation and engine building, and so, after graduating the college, he went to the Omsk Polytechnic Institute, to the department of precision mechanics, which he
graduated with honors. After graduating, he got a job as an engineer in a design office. He defended several patents for his own development. In 1975, he left the design office and, on the recommendation of well-known artists, was hired at the Omsk Dramatic 'Theater as director of the play in production. Six months later, the director sent him to Moscow for advanced training at GITIS, where he did internships at the Taganka
Theater. He has performed with his native theater on stages in Tyumen, Gorky, Sochi, Odessa, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and others.
After graduating in economics and organizing theater business at the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography in 1984, he became director of the
Dramatic Theater in Omsk.
In 1987, on a successful tour of Latvia, he was invited to work as the main direc-
tor of the Russian Drama Theater in Riga. In January 1988, Eduard Tsehoval moved with his family to Latvia. The appointment was signed by the Minister of Culture of that moment, Raymond Pauls, who until present day continues to work fruitfully with the team as the author ofmusic for shows.
