He is the nephew of the scientist, Jayme Tomno. Alfredo hold a doctorate in communication at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a postdoctoral fellowship from the Edelstein Center for History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Chief researcher at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences, he washead of the research department, information and documentationcoordinatorand directorbetween2003 and 2011.From 2011 to 2014, he was teaching and research coordinator at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT). He is a visiting researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study at the UFR), the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, and the Institute for Advanced Study of the Jewish University of Jerusalem, Israel. He was a member of the National Council of Archives, a consultant on the World History of Science Online project, developed by the International Union for the History and Philosophy of Science, a member of the technical-scientific councils of the National Astrophysics Laboratory (LNA), IBICT and MAST, where he was also president. He was also a member of the National Council for Cultural Policy (CNPC), of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Society for the History of Science (SBHC), secretary of the Commission for Bibliography and Documentation of IUPHS, coordi- nator of the science popularization project in Latin America and the Caribbean.
