Her father, Mauricio Tiomno, emigrated from Bessarabia to Brazil. She's Jayme Tiomno's sister. In 1943, she obtained a degree in chemistry at the National Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Brazil (now the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). She was responsible for theStarch Laboratory of the National Institute of Technology (INT) from 1965 to 1982 and the head of the Division of Studies and Prospecting in INT Industrial Chemistry from 1990 to 1995. She was also head of research at the National Council of Research, from 1969 - 1974 and researcher of this institution during 1977-1979 and 1991-1993. The basic activity was oriented towards solving the challenges related to the qualitative extraction of starch from different categories of plants. The successes of his team were manifested by the introduction of technolo- gies that increase the quality of the finished product, but also reduce extraction costs. Due to these discoveries, starch extraction was widely implemented, which led to an expansion of the branches of Brazilian industrialization, especially the alcohol-pro- ducing industry. She is the author of 130 papers, of which she has published 1 in international periodicals, 4 in national journals, 24 in congressional publications and 14 in the Annals ofthe Brazilian Academy of Sciences. She elaborated 60 monographs of technical notes and 25 final project reports and three patents for the description of the processes at the industrial installations.
