He worked ni Chisināu and at the same time completed his postgraduate stu- dies at the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the USSR Academy of
Sciences under the leadership of Anatoly Pervozvansky. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1978). Since 1982 was Senior Researcher at the Department of Mathematics of the Tajik State University (since 1984, Associate Professor). From 1989 in Israel, in 1990-1991 he worked atTel Aviv University, in 1991-1993 at the eco- nomics department of Bar Ilan University, in 1994-1995 at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot. Since 1995 - at the School of Mathematics of the University of South Australia in Adelaide (since 1999, Associate Professor, since 2005, Professor).
Director of the Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics at the School of Mathematics and Statistics of this university, professor Flinders University and
Macquarie University. Vladimir Gaitsgory is an applied mathematician with broad
areas of interest in control, optimisation (operations research), dynamical systems and games theories, and their applications. His most important contributions are in
the areas of singularly perturbed (SP) controlled dynamical systems and SP Markov Decision processes and mathematical programming problems. He has attracted a sig- nificant ARC funding to support his research including ARC Discovery Outstanding
Researcher Award DORA (2013-2015).
