His parents Mendel and Sima Goldenblanc were from Chisināu. Finally, they settled in Chisinau. Borís was eleven years old at the time. He spent his adolescence and the entire Second World War in Moldova, but at the age of eighteen he emigrated to Moscow and was accepted to study at the filmmaking faculty at the State Institute of Cinematography of the Soviet Union (VGIK) In 1975 he headed the Association of Geographic Films Tsentrnauchfilm. Member of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR, twice from 1970 to 1978 and from 1987 to 1990, became president of the documentary section of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR. Member of the Guild of Russian Filmmakers, from 1975 to 1989 taught at VGIK. In 1980 and 1989 he became a member ofthe jury of the Moscow Documentary Film Festival. The direc- tor's works have received prizes and awards at international film festivals in England, Hungary, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Uruguay, Argentina and Mexic. Laureate of the Mikhail Lomonosov Prize, honored art worker of the RSFSR. From 1991 to 1997 he served as professor of filmmaking at the Faculty of Television and Video at the University of Guadalajara. Professor Emeritus of the University of Guadalajara, Member of the Academic Council at the University Center for Artistic Architecture and Design, Founder of Prometeo Magazine, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
