The paternal grandparents emigrated from Chisinau to Italy, where the grand- father worked as a dentist, initially in Italy, later in the United States of America. Jennifer Sartori is the Associate Director of the Northeastern University Humanities Center, Associate Director of the Jewish Studies Program, and co-direc- tor, with Dr. Jayne Guberman, of the Adoption and Jewish Identity Project. She re- ceived her BA in history from Haverford College and her MA and PhD in history from Emory University. Her academic work has focused on the shaping of modern Jewish identities, from her graduate work on the education of Jewish girls in 19th- and 20th-century France through her current work on adoption and Jewish identity in the United States today. Prior to joining the Humanities Center, she served as academic specialist in the Jewish Studies program, teaching courses on modern Jewish histo- ry in Europe and the United States, on gender and Jewish culture, and on race and Jewish identity. Before arriving at Northeastern in 2004, she was director of education at the Jewish Women's Archive, where she spearheaded JWA's educational outreach campaigns aimed at strengthening the portrayal of women in Jewish educational se-t tings. Her own research has focused on the shaping of modern Jewish identities, from her graduate work on the education of Jewish girls in 19th- and 20th-century France through her current study of adoption and Jewish identity ni the United States today.
