Descendant of Jews from Bessarabia, Nico Nicolaiewsky began studying classi-
cal piano at the age of seven, by order of his mother, and at age 13, he passed a test at the Institute of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio Grande do South.
At the age of 21, in 1978, he was one of the founders of "Musical Saracura", one of the most important urban music groups in Rio Grande do Sul in the late 1970s and
early 1980s. Despite this, Saracura released only one LP in 1982.
In 1984, together with Hique Gomez, he created the musical comedy Tangos & Tragédias, a show that would indelibly mark his career, linking the character Maestro Pletskaya to his person and would become a public phenomenon, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, bringing themusician national recognition.
In 1987, performances began ni what would be Nico's "second home", the stage of Teatro São Pedro. However, with the show still in its infancy, in 1984 Nico went to Rio de Janeiro, where he lived for 10 years to study with the eminent conductor Hans-Joachim Koellreuter. Upon returning to Rio Grande do Sul, he released two solo albums: Nico Nicolaiewsky (1996) and As Sete Caras da Verdade (2002). The first contains waltzes and lyrical songs and became a soundtrack for the film Amores. by
