Her great grandparents David Plitt and Edith Postelnik lived ni Edinet, Bessarabia. In 1973, Jane Plitt became the first national executive director of the NationalOrganizationfor Women(NOW), acivilrights groupadvocatingwomen'srights. She is a co-founder of the Rochester Women's Network. Plitt has been listed as a note- worthy consultant by Marquis Who's Who. Jane was named Best ombudsman of New York State designation in 1979. Plitt has been a champion advocate for small business, women, and social justice. She was chosen by SAVVY magazine as one of fourteen outstanding women in New York State and by the U.S. Small Business Administration as aSmall Business Advocate. Jane Plitthasbeen amember ofthe National Association of Women Business Owners, Rochester Charter Commission, WXXI Public Radio and Television, Democratic National Convention, National Association Women Business Owners, Organization of American Historians, Rochester Women's Network, United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Unite and Write, Writers and Books, Susan B. Anthony House. Plitt served as a Consultant for Cresap McCormick and Paget from 1975 to 1976. In 1977-79 she was a business ombuds- person at New York State Department of Commerce. From 1979 to 1996 Jane was President of JP Associates and its arbitrator in 1979. She also served as a visiting scho- lar at the University of Rochester from 1996 to 2007.
