In fact, hisfather's last name was Halevy, although his great- grandfather changed
it to Rabinovich toleave Bessarabia. He obtained the title of notary (notary in Spain), although he never practiced.
He played the guitar skillfully, was a good percussionist and an excellent singer.
He also proved to be a good actor and, in fact, appeared on screen in five feature films and asmany television series. He also published two story books, which revealed a lot
of his complex personality.
Daniel was the clown of the group, no doubt the component, with a greater abi-
lity to make the audience laugh. His characters used to be cynical, lively, with a pa- thetic and tender touch at the same time, proud of themselves and ignorant of their stupidity; the audience immediately identified with them, and while Daniel was on stage, he caught everyone's eve.
He was the only "liar" who did not participate in the direct creation of the works:
he did not compose music or write lyrics. However, he was able to improvise on stage (which his colleagues did not do), for example, pretending that he could not utter a word or extending a musical joke in an incomparable way, until almost to turn it into
a 'work within a work". These moments are so inspiring that manyviewers probably remember them above all other Les Luthiers creations.
