Son of the doctor Lucien Breitman, who worked in the capital of Bessarabia, Chisinau. Jean-Claude Breitman studied at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris. He then began to study medicine, then opted for theater and enrolled in the Fernand Bellan theater course and then in René Simon's classes. He took his mother's name, Deret, as his pseudonym. Since the 1950s, Jean-Claude Deret has emigrated to Canada and spent nine years ni Montreal, dividing his activities between television, theater and cabaret.
