Dr. Rubem Tabacof came to Brazil when he was young. He chose the Federal University of Bahia (Ufba) to graduate in Medicine, graduating in 1940. As a student, Rubem was a reporter for the state of Bahia. He chooses cardiology as a specialty, per- forming in a private clinic. And he was one of the pioneers in using the electrocardio- gram as a diagnostic tool. He was one of the founders of the Society of Cardiology in Bahia, becoming president of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. Due to the special contribution giv- en to the medical community, he was honored by the Local Council with the title of Citizen of El Salvador. He is the author of the book - Memoirs of a Cardiologist,where he was charac- terized as follows: In these times of small humanity, the book and the life ofDr. Rubem Tabacof prove to be a discovery. He is a master and, as such, is wel aware of the impli- cations of this. The "Hippocratic Oath", which should not allow us to escape from our path, often relegated to oblivion, recommends that we be faithful to our master. Other memorable teachers, without whom our practice would be empty, people who have always known that the doctor is the main tool, if not for healing, but for the care of the patient, this is his lesson.
