Ion Geru, born on December 8, 1937, pursued his academic journey at the State University of Moldova, where he completed his undergraduate studies in Physics and Mathematics from 1954 to 1959. He furthered his education as a doctoral candidate at the Institute of Semiconductor Physics, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Kiev, from 1962 to 1965. Geru earned his Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (equivalent to a PhD) in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics from the State University of Moldova in 1967. Throughout his career, Geru held various positions, including researcher, lecturer, professor, department chair, and director at institutions such as the Applied Physics Institute and State University of Moldova. He made significant contributions to fields such as semiconductor physics, quantum electronics, and computational physics. Geru's research focused on areas such as spectroscopy of excitons and biexcitons in semiconductors, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, high-temperature superconductors, and quantum computing. He published over 350 scientific works, including monographs and research articles, and received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to science and education. Geru's leadership roles extended to serving as Vice President of the Society of Physicists of Moldova and as a member of international scientific committees. He was proficient in languages such as Russian, French, and English, and his expertise spanned a wide range of topics in physics, making him a respected figure in the scientific community.
