He has a diverse educational background and a distinguished career spanning several decades. After completing his studies in Mathematics at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the State University of Chișinău (now USM) in 1971, Popa pursued further academic endeavors, including a doctoral program at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) and later earning his doctoral degree in mathematical sciences from the State University of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) in 1979. He continued his academic journey by obtaining his habilitation degree in mathematical sciences from the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev in 1992.Popa's professional career began with teaching mathematics at a secondary school in Zâmbreni, Moldova, before transitioning to roles in scientific research at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (now IMI Vladimir Andrunachievici of ASM). Throughout his career, he has held various positions at the institute, including Scientific Secretary, Vice-Director for Science, and Director.Currently, Popa serves as a Senior Scientific Researcher at IMI Vladimir Andrunachievici and as a university professor at Transnistria State University based in Chișinău. His research interests encompass several areas of mathematics, including invariant processes in the qualitative theory of differential equations, Lie algebras, commutative graded algebras, generating functions and Hilbert series, orbit theory, and Lyapunov stability theory.Popa has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive publication record, which includes over 134 works, including monographs, textbooks, and popular science books. He has also been actively involved in research projects and doctoral supervision, mentoring ten individuals who have successfully defended their doctoral theses under his guidance. In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities, Popa is actively engaged in various academic and scientific organizations in Moldova and abroad. He has served on scientific councils, seminar boards, and expert commissions related to mathematics and has been a member of editorial boards for prestigious mathematical journals. Popa's contributions to mathematics have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the State Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Academician C. Sibirschi Prize, and the Medal of the ASM. He has also received honors from academic and governmental institutions for his outstanding scientific and educational achievements.
