Laurentia Ungureanu, born on March 14, 1965, in Crișcăuți, Dondușeni, Republic of Moldova, is a prominent scientist in the fields of biology, ecology, and hydrology. She currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Zoology, a position she has held since 2019. Her professional journey at the Institute of Zoology began in 1989, progressing through various roles such as junior researcher, senior researcher, and eventually to director. Between 2006 and 2018, she was the Deputy Director for Scientific Activities at the same institute. Ungureanu's research focuses on interdisciplinary environmental studies, investigating aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their interactions. She has extensively studied the impact of environmental factors on ecosystems and species, aquatic biodiversity, and the productivity of hydrobionts. Her work includes monitoring aquatic ecosystems, ecological conservation, and remediation of aquatic environments. She has also contributed to developing sustainable natural resource utilization and biodiversity protection recommendations.Ungureanu holds several prestigious scientific titles, including Correspondent Member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (2023), Professor Researcher (2013), Doctor Habilitat in Biological Sciences (2011), and Doctor in Biological Sciences (1998). She has also been actively involved in academia, having served as a lecturer and professor at various institutions, including the State University of Moldova and the University of European Political and Economic Studies Constantin Stere. Her teaching areas include aquatic ecology, hydrobiology, microbial ecology, and scientific research methodologies. Ungureanu's educational background is rooted in a strong foundation in biology and chemistry, having earned her Bachelor's degree from the State University of Moldova.
