Laurentia Ungureanu, born on March 14, 1965, in Crișcăuți, Dondușeni, Republic of Moldova, is a prominent scientist in the fields of biology, ecology, and hydrology. She currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Zoology, a position she has held since 2019. Her professional journey at the Institute of Zoology began in 1989, progressing through various roles such as junior researcher, senior researcher, and eventually to director. Between 2006 and 2018, she was the Deputy Director for Scientific Activities at the same institute. Ungureanu's research focuses on interdisciplinary environmental studies, investigating aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their interactions. She has extensively studied the impact of environmental factors on ecosystems and species, aquatic biodiversity, and the productivity of hydrobionts. Her work includes monitoring aquatic ecosystems, ecological conservation, and remediation of aquatic environments.
