Veaceslav Ursaki is a distinguished physicist and a key figure in the scientific community of Moldova. His extensive career spans several decades, marked by significant contributions to the fields of physics and engineering.Currently, Ursaki serves as the Deputy Director of the Department of Exact and Engineering Sciences at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, a position he has held since 2018. Prior to this role, from 2013 to 2018, he was the Director of the Department of Engineering and Technological Sciences at the same institution. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing scientific research and development within these departments.Ursaki's professional journey began at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, where he joined as a junior researcher in 1981. Over the years, he progressed through various roles including researcher, senior researcher, coordinator researcher, principal researcher, and head of laboratory. His dedication and expertise eventually led to his appointment as interim director in 2013. Ursaki’s tenure at the Institute of Applied Physics was marked by numerous significant research contributions and advancements in physics.Beyond his primary roles, Ursaki has represented Moldova on multiple international platforms. Since 2017, he has been the plenipotentiary representative of the Moldovan Government to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia. Additionally, from 2014 to 2020, he served as a delegate to the Horizon 2020 Program Committee, contributing to the strategic planning and implementation of research initiatives.Ursaki's academic contributions are equally noteworthy. He has been the Director of the Doctoral School in Physics at the University of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova from 2015 to 2020 and has served as a lecturer and chairman of various academic committees. His role in education extends to the Technical University of Moldova, where he has been involved in the examination commissions for license and master programs.Internationally, Ursaki has undertaken several prestigious internships and fellowships, including at the Technical University of Athens, the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, and the Laser-Laboratorium Göttingen in Germany. These experiences have enriched his research perspective and facilitated international collaborations.Ursaki's academic credentials are impressive. He obtained his PhD in Physics and Mathematics from the “Lebedev” Institute of the Academy of USSR, Moscow, in 1987, and later, in 1998, he earned his habilitated doctor degree from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. In 1999, he was recognized as a research associate professor.In 2023, Veaceslav Ursaki was honored as a Correspondent Member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, acknowledging his significant contributions to the scientific community. His work, characterized by a blend of rigorous research, educational leadership, and international collaboration, continues to inspire and shape the future of scientific research in Moldova and beyond.
