Zota Eremei is a highly esteemed professor at the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, where he has been a pillar of the Morphopathology Department since 2012. His responsibilities extend to delivering lectures, overseeing practical work, developing methodological guides, and participating in various academic and scientific committees.Eremei’s career began in 1960 when he joined the Pathological Anatomy Department as a senior preparator at the Chişinău Institute of Medicine. His early work focused on the study of atherosclerosis and arterial elasticity, culminating in his doctoral thesis in medicine at the young age of 25. Over the years, he has published around 200 scientific papers and secured 72 patents along with 4 inventions in his field, making significant contributions to vascular pathology research. His pioneering work in functional morphology, histoenzyme studies, and the ultrastructure of the vascular system earned him the State Prize of the Moldovan SSR in Science and Technology in 1977.In 1986, Zota Eremei became the principal specialist of the Ministry of Health, and in 1997, he was appointed head of the Pathological Anatomy Department, president of the Morphopathology Society of the Moldovan SSR, and chairman of the Certification Commission for morphopathologist doctors. His doctoral habilitation thesis on Functional Morphology of Arteries and Atherosclerosis, defended in Moscow in 1988, further established his expertise and reputation in the field.Since 1992, he has also led the Laboratory of Angiopathology at the Scientific Center for Pathobiology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, contributing to groundbreaking research on vascular diseases. His work has been recognized internationally, earning him membership in the US Academy in 1991. His monographs, including Early Atherosclerosis (1991), Atherosclerosis (Cellular-Molecular Aspects) (1994), and Atherogenesis (Pathobiological Aspects) (2001), are highly regarded in the scientific community. Notably, his monograph Atherogenesis (Pathobiological Aspects) was awarded the A. I. Strukov Prize by the Russian Medical Academy, and his influential work Pathomorphosis of Atherosclerosis, registered at the International Congress of Pathologists in Athens, is recognized as a heritage piece in the Hellenic Academy's collections.Zota Eremei’s distinguished career reflects his unwavering commitment to advancing medical science, particularly in the study of atherosclerosis and vascular pathology, solidifying his status as a foundational figure in his field.
