Emil Răzvan Theodorescu (May 22, 1939 – February 6, 2023) was a prominent Romanian art historian and politician. He was a full member of the Romanian Academy since 2000 and served as its vice-president from April 20, 2018, until his re-election on May 4, 2022. Theodorescu held the position of senator for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the 2000-2004 legislature and also served as Minister of Culture.On February 9, 1990, he was appointed president of Romanian Radio and Television, where he faced criticism for the alleged manipulations during the June 1990 mining raid. Later, on December 14, 2004, he joined the National Board of the Institute of the Romanian Revolution since December 1989.In January 2007, Theodorescu was elected a member of the Albanian and Macedonian Academies. He became an ambassador of the Alliance of Civilizations for Romania in 2008 and was also a member of the Romanian Academy of Scientists (AOSR). Among his accolades, he received the Herder Prize in 1993 and was awarded the National Order For Merit in the rank of Commander.Răzvan Theodorescu passed away on February 6, 2023, in Bucharest and was buried with military honors at Bellu Cemetery on February 8, 2023.
