Ion Hadârcă has led a multifaceted career spanning literature, politics, and journalism. His journey began with his education, culminating in his graduation from the Faculty of Philology at the Ion Creangă Pedagogical University in Chișinău in 1974. Following this, he embarked on doctoral studies at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Moldavian SSR.In the realm of literature, Hadârcă served in various editorial and leadership roles. From 1978 to 1981, he worked as a redactor and later as the head of a section at the Literatura artistică Publishing House in Chișinău. His involvement extended to literary circles, where he directed the Luceafărul literary circle associated with the magazine Tinerimea Moldovei from 1983 to 1985. Subsequently, he assumed the position of literary consultant and head of the Literature for Children and Youth section at the Writers' Union of Moldova from 1985 to 1987.Transitioning into the political arena, Hadârcă was elected as a People's Deputy in the Parliament of the USSR in 1989, marking the beginning of his political career. He continued his political journey in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, serving as a deputy during the first legislature from 1990 to 1993 and holding the position of First Vice President of the Parliament. His dedication to public service led to his reelection as a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in 1994, where he became a member of the Legal Commission for Appointments and Immunities.Throughout his career, Hadârcă has been recognized for his literary contributions and political achievements. He has received prestigious awards such as the Mihai Eminescu Prize from the Suceava County Council in 1997 and the Beautiful Book, Honor to the Writer Prize for his volume of poems titled Helenice at the VIIth Romanian Book Fair in Iași in 1998. His literary works, spanning 21 volumes of original poetry, fairy tales for children, interviews, speeches, essays, and translations, reflect his diverse talents and deep engagement with Moldovan culture and society.
