Svetlana Cojocaru is a prominent Moldovan mathematician and computer scientist. She is renowned for being the first woman to lead the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. She has made significant contributions to the fields of computerized algebra, formal grammars, intelligent interfaces, and natural language processing​.Cojocaru defended her doctoral dissertation in computer science in Chișinău, making her the first woman in Moldova to achieve this in the field. She has been re-elected for multiple terms as the director of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science and serves as the vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Her leadership and research work have significantly impacted the scientific community in Moldova, especially in encouraging young people to pursue research careers​.She was also recognized as one of the ten women who made history in Moldova by UN Women for her contributions to science and research in the country​.
