Mihaela Curmei is a 5th year PhD student at UC Berkeley in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. She is interested in ML research roles in industry and has experience in companies such as Google and Microsoft. Her research studies the interaction between algorithmic and societal systems, applying tools for Machine Learning, Causal Inference, Control Theory, and Behavioral Psychology to understand how people influence algorithmic decisions and vice-versa how algorithmic intervention impact long term societal outcomes. She has co-authored papers, including one that won the Best Paper Award at the 40th International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval held in Tokyo, Japan.
