Andreas Steier (born January 7, 1972 in Trier, Germany) is a member of the Christian Democratic Party of Germany (CDU). He was elected as Member of German Bundestag in 2017 and represents the people in the electoral district of the Trier Area. He is a full member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and a rapporteur for artificial intelligence, mobility research and the promotion of nonuniversity research. Additionally he is a full member of the Study Commission 'Artificial Intelligence Social Responsibility and Economic, Social and Ecological Potential' as well as a member of the High-Level-Working Group on Artificial Intelligence with a focus on the standardization of artificial intelligence on a national, European and international level. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) founded this group. Prior to his mandate in the Bundestag, he worked as a developer of sensor technologies at IEE in Luxembourg for almost 20 years and holds several patents in this field.
