I am a leading global expert in data science, AI and machine learning and have played a major role over three decades in taking AI and data science from emerging science to mainstream business practice, helping people and communities access insights to improve lives, work and the environment. Currently I am Professor of Data Science at Monash University and Research Director of the Monash Data Futures Institute, supporting government, companies and organisations in using AI, data analytics and insights to help with COVID recovery and develop governance and policy for social good. I’m well known for developing many novel and useful machine learning algorithms that are widely deployed in manufacturing, finance, medicine, biology and geoscience. I am an IEEE Fellow and my numerous awards include the inaugural Eureka Prize for Excellence in Data Science in 2017. I was editor in chief of leading journal Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery and have been Program Committee Chair of
