Kathleen Lawand
Head Arms Unit - Legal Unit International Committee of the Red Cross Kathleen Lawand is Head of the Arms Unit, in the Legal Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Since joining the ICRC in January 2000, she was posted to India, West Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan. From 2008 to 2012, she was Head of the Legal Advisers to the ICRCs Operations. Prior to joining the ICRC, she worked for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She was called to the Qubec Bar in 1990, and practiced law in Montreal mainly in the field of aboriginal law. In 1995 she obtained a Masters degree (LL.M.) in public international law from the London School of Economics, with distinction.
