John Hixson is an accomplished neurologist. He holds a professor of neurology position in the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. Dr. John D. Hixson is a neurologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of epilepsy and seizures. His research interests include emotion processing in temporal lobe epilepsy, antiepileptic drug management, and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES). Dr. Hixson also spends part of his time working on public advocacy and health service issues as relates to epilepsy care.He earned a medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Following residency, he conducted research and completed a fellowship in epilepsy and neurophysiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
