His work in schizophrenia research and value-learning has led to significant contributions to theoretical neurobiology, including the formulation of the dysconnection hypothesis of schizophrenia and the free-energy principle for action and perception (active inference). Friston's achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and receiving the Glass Brain Award for his lifetime achievements in human brain mapping.
