Dr. Elizabeth Mayer-Davis is the Chair of the Department of Nutrition at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She studies the epidemiology and natural history of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and adults. Her work involves translational research to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions designed to facilitate improvement in diabetes self-management, metabolic status, and quality of life for individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes who live in medically underserved communities. Dr. Mayer-Davis is currently the national chairperson of the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study, a multi-center study funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and also serves as principal investigator for the SEARCH Carolina Site. She is a President of Health Care & Education for the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
