Dr. Ron Weiss is a Professor of Biological Engineering at MIT and a pioneer in synthetic biology. He has been involved in this field since 1996 and is known for his work in constructing synthetic gene networks to understand and program cellular behavior. His research focuses on the assembly and delivery of genetic circuits, mammalian synthetic transcriptional regulation, micro-bio-robotic communication, in vivo biosensors, and more. Using principles from computer engineering, his lab programs cells with sensors and actuators controlled by analog and digital logic circuitry, leading to applications in cell behavior control and new programmed cell functions.
