RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science, now known as RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS), was established in 2010 to operate the K computer as a shared facility and integrate the fields of computational science and computer science. The center focuses on a wide range of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, earth science, and technology, and aims to form an international research base for advanced scientific studies and technology.
