Zina Kalay-Kleytman People

Zina Kalay-Kleitman was born in Chisinäu in a Jewishfamily. Her father workedas an engineer and her mother as a textile worker.She emigrated to Israel after high school, she studied political science, special- izing inSovietology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He obtained the master'sdegree with special mention.She began her diplomatic career in 1986. From 1995 to 1998, she wasan adviser to the Israeli embassy in the Russian Federation. From 1998 to 2001, she was Deputy Director of the Department for Europe and Asia of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2001 to 2005, she served as an advisor to Israel's UN delegation. In this capacity, she was in Manhattan during the terrorist attack in New York by Islamist ter- rorists on September 11th, 2001.From 2005 to2007, she worked in the Office for Jewish Diaspora and Inter-con- fessional Relations at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Between 2007 and 2011, Zina Kalay-Kleitman was Israel's ambassador to Ukraine -the third Israeli woman to fulfill this mission (after Anna Azari and NaomiBen Ami).She served as Israel's ambassador to Croatia in 2014-2018. She is one of the most experienced employees of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
