Mikhail Iuriev People

Mikhail Filippovich (Fischelevich) Yuriev was born in Telenesti in 1918. In 1936 he was admitted to the Eastern Section of the History Faculty of LomonosovUniversity in Moscow. In the years 1939-1940, he participated in the Soviet-Finnishwar, and after demobilization, he continued his studies at the University. In 1941, hegraduated from the University. In the years of World War II, he fought in the SovietArmy. Member of the CPSU. He continued his military service until 1948. After hissecond demobilization, in 1951 he was a lecturer at the history faculty of MoscowUniversity. In 1956, he became a lecturer at the Institute of Foreign Languages at theFaculty of History of Lomonosov University, which was later transformed into theInstitute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow University. In 1957-1961, he wasdean of the history faculty. In 1963-1974, he occupied the position of vice-rector ofLomonosov University. In the years 1972-1990 - head of the department of Chinese history. Since 1967 he has been a scientific collaborator of the Institute of the Far Eastof the USSR Academy of Sciences.He is the initiator and organizer of history research and teaching of Chinese studies at Moscow University. He is the author of several reference works in the field of modern Chinese history, including: Rol' revoljutsionnoj armii na pervom etapekitajskoj revoljutsii (1952) and others.
