Matias Stoliar People

Matias Stoliar was born in Tiraspol, one of the eleven children. Shortly after his birth, the familymoved to Chisinau, and after the 1905 pogrom - Matias Stoliar and his sisters went to Argentina.He opened in Buenos Aires, the first Jewishbookstore, which soon became thecentral hall of the city's Jewish intelligence. The decision to open a media source for the Hebrew or Yiddish-speaking population has enabled a large number of emigrants from Eastern Europe to obtain a daily source of information, while allowing young tal- ent to come to Argentina to manifest, to actively participate in the social life of society and contribute to the culture of Argentina.In 1914, he founded the first Jewish daily newspaper in Argentina, Di Yiddishe Zei-tung (now called El Diarioisraelita), in 1930 - editor-in-chief of Di Yiddishe Zeitung, which competed with Di Prese, edited by Pine Katz, and is considered one of the most influential Yiddish newspapers in the world, and in its September 25th,1946 issue, it published an anonymous article (Zvi Kolitsa) Yosl Rakovers' Address to God, republished several times and translated into various languages, being one of the most famous works on the Holocaust, and in 1955, the Union of Jewish Writers of Argentina created the Matias Stoliar Prize, which is awarded for the best creation of the year in Yiddish or Hebrew.
