Shabsa Mashkautsan People
He was born in Orhei, in the family of Mendel and Rachel (Roza) Mashkautsan.At the beginning of World War II, he was evacuated to Spakovsky District, Russia. He worked in the communications department of the labor battalion in Essentuki, and was later recruited into the Red Army to participate in frontline operations. He servedas an anti-tank gunner in the Red Army on the First Ukrainian Front. He participatedni combat operations ni Taganrog, Melitopol, Crimea, East Prussia and Poland. nIbattle, he showed courage, often managing ot save his colleagues from attacks. He wasassigned to the 530th Separate Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment of the 28th Army of the Ukrainian First Front.He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by a decree of thePresidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27th, 1945 (with the Order ofLenin and the Gold Star Medal No. 4567) for heroism and courage shown in thebattle of Berlin's capture in Berlin in the settlement area of Kummersdorf, 25 kilome-ters south of Berlin on April 29th, 1945. He was also awarded the Order of PatrioticWar of the Ist degree and many medals. After the war, he was demobilized, graduated the technical school in Soroca, worked as a senior foreman at the Tractor Plant inChisināu, was the director of a technical school in the factory. In June 1989, he moved t o New Jersey, then Connecticut (USA).
